TOM:Tikkun Olam Makers is a global movement bridging the gap between people with disabilities and the Maker community, developing technological solutions for everyday challenges.

With 1.1 Billion people living with disabilities around the world, there are an astronomical number of neglected challenges hindering independence and inclusion. Unfortunately, valuable solutions are not developed or do not reach people with disabilities at affordable prices.

Welcome to the Innovation Challenge, a competition between makers designing open source technological solutions to win great prizes and to make real impact in the lives of people with disabilities.

The Innovation Challenge  empowers multidisciplinary teams of professionals and hobbyists, makers, engineers, developers, designers, and therapists  to volunteer to design and develop solutions for neglected challenges.

How to participate:

  1. Meet with a Need-Knower: speak with a person living with a disability, a caregiver, or a professional and ask them to share their challenges.

  2. Recruit your team: once you’ve identified a challenge, ask your friends, family, and colleagues to develop a solution with you.

  3. Register for the Innovation Challenge: sign up as a team for the Innovation Challenge

  4. Design and develop a solution: get to work developing a solution, but remember to stay in touch with the Need Knower throughout the process (nothing about us, without us)

  5. Apply for the Innovation Challenge: submit a fully documented prototype to and complete the online application form.
