The NanoHack is an open-source respirator mask. Designed by Copper3D, a TOM:Chile Partner, company that manufactures PLACTIVE® an innovative Nano-composite developed with a high-quality PLA and a patented, scientifically validated and highly effective Nano-Copper additive that provides antimicrobial and antiviral protection.
Due to the SARS-COV-2 pandemic, the supply of facemasks is extremely limited, especially to the healthcare professionals and caretakers who need them most. The team is working on V2 of a reusable, modular face mask made from antibacterial PLA with a lifecycle that could outlast a virus.
Due to COVID19, Medical facilities worldwide are facing a dire shortage of face shields, N95 masks, and other personal protective equipment. Face Shields are not a replacement for N95 masks, however they do act as a protective physical barrier for healthcare workers's faces when dealing with patients' bodily fluids. Many conventional manufacturers have suspended production to follow government-mandated social distancing or run into supply chain issues due to the disruption in thre global econonmy. The Maker Community has committed to enacting Plan C: filling in the gap with an global network of independent DIY fabricators.
About Copper3D Copper3D is a Chilean / US based company producing antibacterial materials to help avoid infections and save millions of lives.
Advantages FLAT PATTERN
allows for easy manufacturing and mass-quantity shipping.
THERMOFORMING CAPABILITIES
55º - 60º C allow the use of hair dryers or warm water to mold the mask to custom fit any face.
REUSABLE & RECYCLABLE
clean with soap and water for multiple uses, will be made from recycled PLA.
MODULAR FILTRATION SYSTEM
includes several layers with different geometries to provide effective fine particle filtration. Furthermore, this system can house third party filtration materials, such as non-woven propylene, sponge, or textile.
CONTROL OF THE FILTRATION AND AIR INTAKE
prolonged use of N95 respirators have shown impaired nasal airflow . Single-use respirators do not allow the regulation of air intake or particle size. NanoHack will incorporate a modular filtration disc that can effectively regulate the air intake and the particle size.
Assembly NanoHack was conceived to be a product that is 3D printed on a plane and then assembled by each user with very simple elements and procedures.
Building of NanoHack V1 is not recommended at this time by Copper3D unless you have access to their antibacterial PLA.The company plans to release Version 2 shortly.
Please follow the instructions below to safely construct and correct use NanoHack.
Print the pieces with 20% infill, without support or rafts.
Heat the NanoHack to 55º-60º C with a hairdryer or hot water. The circular part has to be intact, that's why it's thicker so that it doesn't deform.
When softening, bring together the nose wings and adjustment wings located on the lower jaw. You can glue them to fix them better if you want.
Heat it up again and put it on your face for final adjustments. Make sure it's not too hot! If you feel that there is some part of the mask that does not fit well or is too tight, you can put a small piece of soft rubber in the contact areas.
Screw the "cover" on with one or two additional filters. If you use a filter, you can use a circular piece (single or double) of a conventional mask (nonwoven propylene) or add a round facial cotton pad for makeup. Half pad can make breathing easier.
Add the elastics/straps.
