JoJo Shirt Lift

JoJo Shirt Lift - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Cornell University community

About this project

The team built Jojo a mechanically operated dressing assistant that can be attached to any chair. It features a motorized arm that holds Jojo’s shirt open and in place so that he can insert his arms, which are then mechanically raised into a position that completes the dressing process. The device can also be modified to adapt to Jojo as he grows bigger.

The challenge

The challenge is to create a device that will enable Jojo to dress himself independently.

Who it helps

Jojo is a 4-year-old need-knower with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita--he has curved joints and a minimal amount of muscles which makes many of the activities of daily living very difficult.
