Minimal stander for children with cerebral palsy

Minimal stander for children with cerebral palsy - open-source assistive technology concept by the TOM International Community community

The challenge

Appropriate physical therapy can promote greater autonomy in children with CP, which is the main objective of rehabilitation. Standing weight bearing therapy has a huge positive impact however current products are expensive

Who it helps

We work with many mothers who are full-time caregivers of their children with cerebral palsy. They are the ones who carry out the greatest number of activities related to feeding, transportation, hygiene and monitoring their child's development.

How it works

The design is based on years of experience of our team designing standers, postulating a mechanical solution that uses super accessible materials and components, in addition to a variety of processes that can be handmade or digital.

A system that allows caregivers of children with CP to easily and safely position children vertically to perform standing therapies. Simple and robust materials are used to have a low-cost, easy to assemble, repairable and safe solution.
