Open Source Respirators & Ventilators

Open Source Respirators & Ventilators - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) community

About this project

This open source 3D-printed ventilator quad splitter allows to use one ventilator to ventilate 7 patients. The splitter was designed by IntCadSol in collaboration with doctors from Manchester Memorial Hospital in CT.

The challenge

There is a world wide shortage of ventilators.

Who it helps

In the most severe cases of COVID-19, many patients contract pneumonia, and those who are hospitalized for COVID-19 often require mechanical ventilation or are put on ventilators when they are placed in Intensive Care Units.

How it works

Quad Fitting

The quad fitting has been tested once with seven simulated patents. Each patent received .9 psi at 500 ml/sec. The model tested were printed on a HP fusion jet and a SLA. At this time, no testing has been completed using a FDM printed prototypes.
