3D Printed Hand Grasp Exoskeletal Aid

3D Printed Hand Grasp Exoskeletal Aid - open-source assistive technology prototype by the New Jersey Institute of Technology community

The challenge

Existing tenodesis splints are expensive and open source variants available online are often challenging to manufacture. A new open-source 3D printable tenodesis splint design could help solve this need gap.

Who it helps

Stroke patients experience deteriorated hand function and an inability to grasp objects post-stroke. C6 Quadriplegics have a lack of finger motion but full wrist control.

How it works

Our project serves to help both stroke patients and C6 quadriplegics be able to grasp objects by catering to their individual needs. For stroke patients, this project also serves to help rehabilitate finger control with repeated use.

Our Design is a dual-purpose modular Tenodesis splint and stroke rehabilitation device to help stroke patients and C6 quadriplegics train their hand grasp motion. The design is open source, 3D-printable and includes an optional motor attachment.
