Adaptive Spoon Holder

Adaptive Spoon Holder - open-source assistive technology working model by the Beit Halochem Tel Aviv community

The challenge

High muscle tone, weakness and limited hand movement make it difficult to hold and orient a spoon. Thickened handles and standard cuffs did not provide sufficient stability, spoon positioning or independent fitting.

Who it helps

People with high muscle tone, limited hand movement or reduced grip strength who need support to hold and position a spoon. Individual fitting is required.

How it works

The grip and strap help retain the spoon, while its position is tailored to the user's hand posture and available movement, reducing reliance on precise finger grip during eating.

A hand-mounted spoon holder with a shaped grip, a spoon attachment and a double-sided hook-and-loop strap, designed to support right-hand eating with high muscle tone and limited movement.
