Balance-Stability Appliance

Balance-Stability Appliance - open-source assistive technology prototype by the TOM International Community community

The challenge

This appliance encourages a swinging motion on the stepping surface, strengthening the pelvic-region vestibular system. This enhances functionality (by combining cognitive stimulation) and user well-being.

Who it helps

People in their middle age may experience muscle weakening due to a lack of exercise. This group of people, particularly those facing the challenges of dementia, often find themselves mentally exhausted and less likely to initiate activities on their own.

How it works

User Movement:

Physical actions within the appliance.

Stimuli Combination:

Touch and visual cues trigger user actions.

Movement Restriction:

Movement limits enhance safety and security.

The appliance offers exercises for the pelvic muscles to improve the vestibular system and promote better body posture.
