Rowing Backrest - "Park Paddlers"

Rowing Backrest - "Park Paddlers" - open-source assistive technology working model by the TOM International Community community

About this project

A back support that fits a number of different sizes of boats in which rowers with Parkinson's can use.

The challenge

The project is necessary to allow Parkinson's patients to engage in rowing. Before the solution we proposed, the rowing team used improvised and dangerous plastic chairs. Without the chairs people with severe Parkinson's disease cannot row at all.

Who it helps

People who live with Parkinson's, and row twice a week in a dragon boat in the Yarkon River in Israel.

How it works

By creating a backrest, Parkinson's patients will have the required support in order to be able to sit in the boat and row.
