Bottle Opener

Bottle Opener - open-source assistive technology product by the Tokyo community

About this project

The PET Bottle Opener is a 3D printed tool with a section that grips onto bottle caps and an extended lever that enables users to twist open the cap with a light push or pull force.

The challenge

People who have challenges with fine motor skills and/or hand-eye coordination can struggle to open bottles on their own because PET bottle caps require a firm grip and twist action. This solution enables users to open bottle caps with a light force - rather than needing to pinch a bottle cap with their fingertips, users can simply fit the product on top of the cap and push the lever to turn it.

Who it helps

This tool is designed for people who have difficulty with fine motor skills (i.e. pinching, gripping, squeezing) or with hand coordination.
