The Bottle Opener is a 3D printed tool with an end that grips onto bottle caps and an extended squeezable lever that enables users to twist open a cap with a light push or pull force.
This product was originally developed by our TOM: Tokyo Team, and was further developed by the TOM R&D Team to maximize tool usability for different size bottle caps.
This solution aims to enable any individual to open a bottle cap by themself with a light pull or push force.
The bottle opener was designed with Emma Siegel, a 24-year old who struggles with hand/grip/finger strength, and aims to help anyone who may have difficulty with fine motor skills (i.e. pinching, gripping, squeezing) or with hand coordination.
The Bottle Opener 2.0 is an outcome of further development by the TOM R&D team upon an initial design from the TOM: Tokyo team.
Who
This tool is designed for people who have difficulty with fine motor skills (i.e. pinching, gripping, squeezing) or with hand coordination.
Why
People who have challenges with fine motor skills and/or hand-eye coordination can struggle to open bottles on their own because bottle caps require a firm grip and twist action.
What
How
This solution enables users to open bottle caps with a light force - rather than needing to pinch a bottle cap with their fingertips, users can simply fit the product on top of the cap and push the lever to turn it.
