CP Stander

CP Stander - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Georgia Tech community

About this project

The CP Stander provides the user with torso support to keep them standing upright while minimizing the footprint so that they can be up close to their toys/other activities. The free-standing solution is made with wood (easy assembly), and includes I-hooks to allow for adjustability as the user grows.

The challenge

Create a doorway apparatus or harness that can attach or suspend from a support bar/doorway that will allow children who cannot stand or walk independently to wear/attach to the apparatus. The goal is for the apparatus to give them the support to be upright and get very close to objects/toys/furniture/access to play. This is because traditional standers are bulky and take them out of the "element" that everyone else is in.

Who it helps

Jess is a mother of two boys. She works in the clinical trials/pharmaceutical field. She is an ambitious person who loves to meet new people and learn new things. Her son has CP, and she is dedicated to making life more accessible for him.
