Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America
Located in the heart of Midtown Atlanta, Georgia Tech is one of the leading public research institutions in the nation. With some of the highest ranked undergraduate programs in the nation, Georgia Tech students are the powerhouse of innovation behind TOM:GT’s work. Established in 2019, TOM:GT achieves its mission through several program offerings:
Cohort Program: semester-long projects where teams can develop very intimate and polished solutions for need-knowers. Allows for us to achieve our mission of impacting others year-round, and provides an opportunity to onboard talent for the long-term.
Makeathon: Structured similarly to a hackathon, a weekend-long event where student teams are paired with need-knowers to create workable prototypes during the weekend event. This helps us create large impacts within a short amount of time, and offers an opportunity for short-term projects for students who are busy with other commitments year-round.
Build Parties: Social events hosted within the club throughout the year, where we produce and assemble existing TOM solutions. These products are created in a few hours, and then distributed out to need-knowers in our local area to assist with their needs. This option provides a great method for internal community building, which our exec team hear at TOM:GT believes is critical to ensuring for the long-term success of a TOM community.
We aim to build up TOM Atlanta and collaborate with TOM Emory to build a united front of assistive technology resources at a university, government, corporate, and independent partnership level. Our goal is to develop TOM as a centerpiece in the Atlanta assistive tech movement. We aim to help to connect all the great resources and people in the area to each other, and cement Atlanta as an assistive technology hub in the United States for years to come.
