Adaptive Toddler Bike

Adaptive Toddler Bike - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Georgia Tech community

The challenge

Noah's bike was improved for comfort, safety, and therapeutic benefits. Enhancements include a wider seat for stability, back support for posture, a fixed rear tire for muscle engagement, foot holders for security, and a parent handle for assistance.

Who it helps

The bike is ideal for small kids ages 3 to 6 that have leg weakness or neurological issues that need additional support to bike. It aids in leg strengthening and body and foot stabilizing for comfort and safety.

How it works

Start with a 12-inch bike with training wheels. Modify a backrest seat by extending the support bars. Replace or weld the rear wheel's gear hub for a fixed gear. Add a guardian handle to the rear wheel or seat post.

A modified toddler tricycle that has several features that an Amtryke has, but made at a fraction of the cost.
