Ziv's Adaptive Bicycle Attachments

Ziv's Adaptive Bicycle Attachments - open-source assistive technology prototype by the TOM International Community community

The challenge

The core issue with existing solutions is safety; foot straps prevent quick release during falls, and standard handlebars require a reach that is impossible for some. This creates total dependency on a caregiver and prevents independent riding.

Who it helps

Designed for a child but suitable for many users with unilateral motor weakness (caused by CP/stroke etc). It targets those needing foot stability and users with limited arm reach affecting steering ability.

How it works

This solution empowers users with lateral weakness by compensating for limited reach and stabilizing the foot. Bringing the grip closer reduces steering strain, while pedal add-ons prevent slippage and dependency, enhancing balance and confidence.

Two customized, adjustable bicycle attachments. Pedal add-ons for steady grip and self-entry/release, and a handlebar extension that brings the grip closer. This system enables an independent, safe, and joyful riding experience.
