Zip Line Support System

Zip Line Support System - open-source assistive technology working model by the Georgia Tech community

About this project

This is an accessible zipline harness for children with disabilities. The harness accommodates needs for neck and torso support. It is designed to be easier to put on while in a wheelchair than a typical harness.

The challenge

While at Camp Twin Lakes, one of the campers' activities is a zip line. When the campers are using the zip line, it is important that the harness system keeps them upright and provides the necessary back, neck, and head support. Current seatback inserts do not provide all of the needed supports, meaning some campers are unable to participate in and enjoy the zip line.

Who it helps

Camp Twin Lakes has delivered fully adaptive, medically supportive, and deeply impactful camp experiences to more than 10,000 of Georgia’s children and young adults, helping each camper grow in their confidence and experience the joys of childhood. Today, CTL serves thousands of campers through year-round programming at our fully-accessible facility
