Help with Stairs

Help with Stairs - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Medellín community

About this project

The design has an aluminum pipe structure that connects with wheels and has no pedals so that Fede can actually walk by himself. The butterfly handle is meant to make a turn as easy as possible. It was built to Fede’s exact measurements so that it wouldn’t be robust but it would support his weight without any problem.

The challenge

Federico's characteristics make it difficult for him to control some of his body movements and requiring external support for balance. The challenge that he presents in TOM is the development of a support system that allows him to go up and down the stairs in a safe way without requiring constant support from another person.

Who it helps

Federico is 11 years old. He is a 4th-grade student.
