My Safe Space | Portable Sensory Kit | Movement Kit

My Safe Space | Portable Sensory Kit | Movement Kit - open-source assistive technology concept by the TOM Israel community community

The challenge

Emergencies can overwhelm children on the autism spectrum, making it hard to reach and stay

in shelters. The kits helps families navigate the shift from routine to safety. It may also supports

other disruptions like medical visits or vacations.

Who it helps

Children with diverse disabilities: Autism Spectrum and Sensory Processing, who experience

heightened anxiety and sensory dysregulation during emergencies. This kit is intended for those who need to move and release energy in order to regulate themselves.

How it works

The kit combines sensory tools and guide cards to provide calming and grounding. Designed

for rapid setup and repacking, it is easily portable, allowing families to move quickly between

spaces while maintaining a consistent safe environment.

A portable kit of off-the-shelf sensory tools and guidance cards. These cards empower parents

to explain the situation and show how to use each item for the best effect, creating a structured

path from routine to safety and back.
