Open Source PPE

Open Source PPE - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) community

About this project

These CAPR / PAPR lens cuff replacements designed by Something Labs are being provided

in response to the shortage in supply of replacement shields

in urgent COVID needs. They are intended as part of a system

to provide health workers with a high degree of safety when

seeing potentially COVID-positive patients.

The challenge

There is a world wide shortage of ventilators.

Who it helps

In the most severe cases of COVID-19, many patients contract pneumonia, and those who are hospitalized for COVID-19 often require mechanical ventilation or are put on ventilators when they are placed in Intensive Care Units.

How it works

Durable Lens / Cuff Replacement

This lens / cuff uses a flexible vinyl to go under the neck, which is less elastic than the traditional model but can be sterilized and cleaned for many uses while in short supply.

Features:

Polycarbonate lens + flappers, vinyl cuff

Pouched form for ergonomic contouring

Polygonal shape for easy fabrication and expanded viewing window

Fits with Max-Air CAPR helmets

Durable cuff for multiple uses

S, M, L sizes

Polyurethane Lens / Cuff

This lens / cuff uses polyurethane to gently contour to the face with a more comfortable fit, but with less possibility of multiple uses. Users will find the feel very similar to the original lens/cuffs.

Features:

Polycarbonate lens + flappers, 2 mil polyurethane cuff

Polygonal shape for easy fabrication and expanded viewing window

Fits with Max-Air CAPR helmets

Flexible cuff for easy donning / doffing

SM / MED size, MED/LARGE size
