Playing music without pain

Playing music without pain - open-source assistive technology challenge by the Restart community

The challenge

Yosef has been a musician since childhood and has been playing for as long as he can remember. Yosef sings and plays drums, guitar, and piano. Today, the injury severely limits his performance, both in the ability to do things he could once easily do, and the amount of time he can play before his hand gets tired and he cannot continue. His thumb and forefinger are the most problematic, and he is seeking a solution that will support his hand and ease his pain, while not restricting the movement of his fingers.

Who it helps

Yosef Abramson, age 25, was wounded by shrapnel in his left hand during Operation Protective Edge. Despite the injury, he stayed in action and arrived at the hospital a week later with a hand infection and severe nerve damage. Married and father of two, Amir lives and works in Tel Aviv.
