Savegrabber

Savegrabber - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) community

About this project

The Savegrabber is a hook-like device that allows the opening and closing of doors without touching the handle. The design includes a tip for pressing elevator buttons and light switches, and can be worn with a retractable key chain on the belt or on a bag.

The challenge

Designing a device that will minimize users' contact with highly contaminated surfaces such as door handles, elevator buttons, nobs etc'

Who it helps

Door handles, elevator buttons and other frequently touched surfaces are among the most germ-infested objects in homes, healthcare facilities, factories and senior care centers. The need for a barrier that will minimize exposure to these surfaces can help reduce contamination.

How it works

UPDATE: The design is now more round and should fit to handles on most public transportation up to 31 mm in diameter.

Specs

The print in PLA is sufficient and can be cleaned using an alcohol-based disinfect.

Printing is easy. No support or brim are needed.

V2 is designed to be slightly stronger and should be printed with 55% triangular infill and 0.2mm layer height.

Developer History

The Savegrabber was invented by plastics engineer who goes by coolioiglesias. The original post can be found here .
