Seat Assist

Seat Assist - open-source assistive technology working model by the Philips community

About this project

The crew designed a vest in multiple sizes suitable for multiple aged children who have difficulties sitting by themselves.

The challenge

The purpose of “seat assist” is to provide supplementary seating options outside of an adapted wheelchair for children who need external seating support. It can be used to enhance participation in daily activities, for example: in an airplane, on the sofa, in a classroom chair, by the dinner table, at the cinema etc. Seat Assist allows children who need support in sitting to sit out of their wheelchair for periods of time.

Who it helps

Guy was born with CP, his family encounters a problem when boarding a flight, as by FAA law it is forbidden to connect devices of any kind to the plane seat.
