EasySleeve Reach Assist

EasySleeve Reach Assist - open-source assistive technology working model by the Cornell Tech community

The challenge

Putting on a jacket requires stretching backward, which is extremely painful or physically impossible for people with limited mobility. This simple but effective device safely brings the sleeve to the front, instantly restoring their dressing independence.

Who it helps

Potential users are elderly individuals, stroke survivors, amputees, persons with frozen shoulders or severe arthritis, those recovering from upper-body surgeries, and anyone with restricted arm mobility or one-handed abilities struggling to dress up daily

How it works

This device safely bridges the physical gap between the user's hand and the back of their garment. By bringing the armhole directly to the front of the body, it completely removes the painful barrier of shoulder extension and restores dressing autonomy.

This solution is a custom 3D-printed assistive dressing tool. It features a secure clip attached to the jacket and an extended arm threaded into the empty sleeve. Holding the clip allows the user to safely pull the sleeve forward without reaching backward.
