Spoona

Spoona - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Kibbutzim College community

About this project

A utensil holder that a pet – Donna, Bracha’s dog, in our case – can put in his or her mouth to feed their owner.

The challenge

As a quadraplegic, Bracha is unable to feed herself on her own. Although she shared with us that her service dog, Donna, knows how to feed her, she rarely does so because they do not have the proper equipment to do so.

Who it helps

Bracha is an inspiring woman who is quadraplegic, yet has continued to experience a full life and explore her talents and passions such as creating art.

How it works

The spoon holder we created enables Donna, Bracha’s dog, to feed Bracha. It is made of a washable, lightweight, soft material so it is hygienic and comfortable for Donna, and securely holds a soft spoon so as to avoid the risk of hurting Bracha’s teeth.
