Digitus (Typing Prothesis)

Digitus (Typing Prothesis) - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Medellín community

The challenge

Rigoberto is in need of a device that offers a high level of mobility to carry out his computer-related tasks effectively while in university. Ideally, he would prefer an assistive device that extends up to his wrist area.

Who it helps

Rigoberto Zapata is 47 years old and lives with his family. He is a university student who requires a device to quickly manage computer keyboards. Rigoberto lost both of his hands over 20 years ago due to an explosion during his time in the police force.

How it works

This solution will address the challenge because it will allow Rigoberto to fully use a computer in a quick and easy way. The idea is that it can be recreated in the future by people with similar problems in an easy way.

The project involves a bracelet with an adaptable connection that can securely and efficiently allow Rigoberto to type and use his mouse in the computer. The idea is that the adapter can add other functions like cutlery pincers, and more.
