TumorShell-Protective Shell for Back Tumor Area

TumorShell-Protective Shell for Back Tumor Area - open-source assistive technology working model by the TOM@Care community

About this project

A ventilated 3D-printed back shield with a soft chest harness protects patients with back tumors or sensitive post-surgery areas from pressure, friction, and clothing contact. It creates a comfortable separation zone that prevents pain and injury while allowing safe movement and leaning.

The challenge

Because leaning back causes pain and may injure the cancerous area; regular contact with chairs or clothes can worsen the wound and delay healing.

Who it helps

Patients with back tumors or sensitive post-surgery areas who need daily protection from pressure, friction, and clothing contact.

How it works

It creates a separation zone that prevents any surface or clothing from touching the tumor, allowing the user to lean back safely without pain or risk of injury.

A ventilated 3D-printed back shield attached to a soft, flexible chest harness that holds it comfortably in place, protecting the tumor area while allowing free movement and leaning.
