Adam's Chair

Adam's Chair - open-source assistive technology prototype by the HIT - FIXPERTS community

The challenge

Rehabilitative kindergartens have assistive devices for children with disabilities, but many are general solutions. Children with complex impairments need dedicated devices tailored to their bodies and specific needs.

Who it helps

The chair is designed for children with motor impairments who are unable to sit independently and safely.

How it works

A custom birch CNC-made chair with four leg straps, a waist belt, and asymmetrical side supports ensures Adam’s stable posture while preserving upper-body mobility. With wheels, handle, and Skai upholstery, it is practical and easy for staff use.

A floor chair designed for children with special needs, allowing safe and independent sitting while preserving freedom of movement for play and learning.
