Power Chair Toggle Switch Lever

Power Chair Toggle Switch Lever - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Shepherd Center community

The challenge

The Shepherd Center strives to increase patients' independence

when performing activities of daily living such as using a power

wheelchair.

Who it helps

Intended users of this switch lever are individuals with limited hand dexterity or range of motion. This could lead to difficulty when operating a power wheelchair.

How it works

The Power Chair Toggle Switch Lever limits the need for a pinching

motion when turning a power chair's toggle switch by adding

an extension piece. NOTE: there are four different sets of files posted to accomodate different types of power wheelchairs.

The Power Chair Toggle Switch Lever is a small 3D printed device that

uses a horizonal switch extension, fastened with a set screw, to allow

the user to easily use a power wheelchair's toggle switch.

Tools needed
