The office chair stopper is a button-activated brake system for rolling chairs. It enables individuals reliant on chair sturdiness and stability in order to sit down and stand up, to do so independently and anywhere they desire.
This solution was developed during the 2022 Abraham Accords Open Innovation Challenge.
It was designed for Batia Shviki, a paraplegic, formal paralympic winner in multiply sports. This solution helps Batia move around her home using a supportive office chair while being able to sit and get up safely.

Batia Shviki is a formal Paralympic winner in multiply sports. She is paraplegic due to a polio disease and she moves around with the help of crutches.
What
Why
In order for Batia to comfortably and safely sit down and stand up from her office chair, she needs it to stay in place to provide the proper support. Until now, she has always dragged the chair next to a wall so it wouldn’t roll away, but this is very inconvenient!
Who
Batia Shviki is a formal paralympic winner in multiply sports. She is paraplegic due to polio disease and mostly moves around with the help of crutches.
How
This solution combines mechanisms with electronics to create a system in which at the push of a button, a chair brake is activated (moves up and down).
