Adventure Kayak

Adventure Kayak - open-source assistive technology concept by the Bay Area community

About this project

Diane and her team created a lightweight quick release adaptive gripping system so that people with hand and grasp issues could hold a paddle with agility and confidence and they could independently raft, kayak, canoe, etc along with an inflatable adaptive seat and adjustable back that provides excellent support for people with mobility issues so they could situpright and paddle a raft, kayak or canoe independently.

The challenge

The goal is to make an adaptive seat for paddlers with mobility or trunk balance challenges. We hope to enable a diverse group of adventurers to paddle a sea kayak with ease and to fully engage in kayaking on our stunning waterways like Tomales Bay, San Francisco Bay or even out the Golden Gate.

Who it helps

People with hand and grasp issues can't hold a paddle. The need knower is Diane.
