The team are investigating the possibilities of damping selected frequencies to make a pair of headphones compatible with the hearing aids, or of amplifying selected frequencies to replace the aids for digital sounds. They developed a new product which adapts to sudden change in frequency so Gina can put on her earphones and listen to music or learn a new language and hear all the sounds.
Gina has hereditary, advancing hearing loss. Her hearing aids, despite being quite expensive, amplify all noise received and work poorly with headphones. She is finding it increasingly difficult to listen to electronic sounds, whether music or speech, which play a growing role in interaction with the world. A device/process is needed such that she is able to listen to sound coming out of electronic devices. With her four kids living around the world, she decided to learn a new language. But she found herself not hearing all the syllables and missing half the words.
