Contact Lens Opener

Contact Lens Opener - open-source assistive technology product by the TOM International Community community

About this project

This 3D-printed contact lens opener is designed for people who have difficulty opening disposable contact lens packs, especially those with reduced grip or pinch strength. It cleverly makes use of a common hairpin as part of the construction.

The challenge

Matsuri lives alone in a wheelchair and has little grip or pinch strength due to a progressive disease, making it difficult for her to perform daily tasks.

Who it helps

This product is designed for people who have difficulty opening contact lenses, especially those with reduced grip or pinch strength.

How it works

The proposed solution, a contact opener, is designed to allow her to independently open her contacts even with her grip, reducing her patience with fashion and helping her to live more independently.

The contact lenses opener is unique because it uses a common hairpin to open contact lenses quickly without spilling the liquid. By inserting the pin into the lid and rotating the handle forward, the contact case can be opened easily and securely.
