Seal Opener

Seal Opener - open-source assistive technology working model by the TOM International Community community

The challenge

The size and texture of the seal's tag--if they exist on the jar itself--makes it difficult to open. Many need knowers currently use heavy duty knifes to break the seal, introducing additional unnecessary risk in their daily life.

Who it helps

Anyone with challenges opening seals on jars or medicine bottles, including those with challenges caused by difficulties with hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, or hand grip strength.

How it works

It address the challenge because it reduces the weight of the cutting tools and reduces the sharpness of the edge, demonstrating the products safety.

The solution is a lightweight handle with an edge and floss holder. The combination of these components allow for users to easily open foil seals without the seal completely falling into the jar.

Tools needed

FDM Printer
