Prescription Bottle Opener

Prescription Bottle Opener - open-source assistive technology working model by the New Jersey Institute of Technology community

The challenge

This project is especially important for Riddhi because, now that she is living away from home, she needs to open her medications independently. Many prescription bottles require grip strength and fine motor control that can be difficult.

Who it helps

A prescription bottle opener designed for individuals with limited fine motor skills. It helps those who have difficulty applying pressure and turning standard child-safe caps. The device makes opening prescription bottles easier and safer.

How it works

This solution addresses the challenge by reducing the physical effort and fine motor precision required to open prescription bottles. The stretchable design and rubber grips allow the device to securely hold and rotate the cap.

We created a prescription bottle opener that stretches to latch onto and grip prescription bottles securely. Rubber grips inside the device enhance traction, allowing it to rotate the cap with minimal force. This design reduces the need for grip strength.
