COVID-19 - PPE solutions

COVID-19 - PPE solutions - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) community

About this project

This design is brought to us by Anne Gates Studio (https://annegates.com/) and Something Labs (https://www.somethinglabs.org/window-masks).

The challenge

As the world transitions from the COVID-19 crisis into a ‘new normal’, mandatory face mask regulations are a part of everyone's life. Unfortunately, standard mask designs do not meet the needs of the deaf and hearing impaired, teachers, speech therapists, and more who rely on lip-reading and/or facial expressions to communicate and educate. However, COVID-19 has shown the world that the Do-It-Yourself and Maker Movement world are ready to lend a helping hand (and needle).

Who it helps

We all crave human connection. The coronavirus that requires us to wear face coverings prevents exactly that. But for some - Deaf and hearing impaired, Children with developmental disabilities, speech therapists and teachers For some in our communities it is much more than that, it is a necessity to be able to communicate and understand those in your surrounding.
