Custome Cane

Custome Cane - open-source assistive technology concept by the University of Pittsburgh community

The challenge

Aside from my friend, there is a common need for a solution to this problem among individuals with impaired lower body mobility. From the initial searches, there was a range of around 18 problems within bathrooms identified, none were being addressed.

Who it helps

It started with the student I met at a restaurant who mentioned that most university bathrooms are not built for wheelchair users. Which caused me to ideate - what can I do to help? This is when I and a team of engineering students decided to get involved.

How it works

It will be a solution with an adaptable component and switchable attachments that can facilitate a lot of different solution dependent on the user's needs.

What we are offering is an easy to use, portable, and adaptable device that can facilitate a solution to a majority of the problems faced in the bathroom by various individuals with impaired lower body mobility.
