smart cane

smart cane - open-source assistive technology concept by the Hadassa community

About this project

A smart guide stick. At the end of the stick there is a distance sensor that detects height obstacles. The sensor transmits a signal to a vibration motor that warns the blind person of the obstacle. and thus prevents injury.

The challenge

Blind people navigate in space with a guide stick. The guidance stick makes it possible to identify many obstacles, but not obstacles that are at a height - such as branches.

Who it helps

Blind people often use a guide stick to orient themselves in space.

How it works

Blind people navigate in space with a guide stick. The guidance stick makes it possible to identify many obstacles, but not obstacles that are at a height - such as branches. In a conversation with a blind man, he told me that he was hit in the face by obs

If the blind man knew there was an obstacle at a height in front of him, he knew to be careful and avoid the obstacle.
