Grip Glove

Grip Glove - open-source assistive technology working model by the 2021 TOM Global Innovation Challenge (GIC) community

About this project

The product is an orthosis that works based on tension. With a slight movement of the wrist it will generate the adequate tension to be able to close the fingers, allowing the need knower to grasp some objects.

The GripGlove will give support for the need knower's hand by giving her more mobility in the fingers in order to allow her to grab objects such as bottles, glasses or even racquets, and letting her have more independence.

The solution will allow the people with little force in their hands to do actions which require the use of the whole hand, like grab bottles and glasses, and even to hold a racquet to play a sport.

Who it helps

Our need-knower is a 23-years-old girl. She has arthritis in her right hand, so she cannot grab objects. She has 20% of force in her hand. She went through a procedure, but this treatment only last 2 years. So she needs a long term solution to treat her disability
