Independent Feeding Device

Independent Feeding Device - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Vanderbilt University community

The challenge

Jameson wants to go to summer camp, but the camp does not have a registered nurse. Therefore, due to liability issues, Jameson needs to be able to feed himself independently.

Who it helps

Jameson is a young boy with an autoimmune inflammatory brain disorder. He has mild to severe mobility issues and eats through a feeding tube.

How it works

Jameson will be able to use this device to independently feed himself at summer camp, as well as at school and at home.

Our proposed solution is a manual syringe pump with a specialized handle that Jameson will be able to easily turn to drive the motion of the syringe.
