Large Grip Key Holder

Large Grip Key Holder - open-source assistive technology product by the Milbat community

About this project

The Key Holder enables people who lack fine motor skills to open door locks or any key-using mechanism by themselves.

This product has two different sizes, to accommodate different palm sizes.

This product is made from 3D printed files that are then connected to a key using glue or a screw.

The challenge

Milbat wanted to design a product to enable people lacking fine motor skills in their fingers and wrists to hold a key and use it for opening doors and other locking mechanisms.

Milbat is a nonprofit public organization operating throughout Israel to enable people with deterioration in their function to enjoy maximum independence by creating an adapted technological environment for them. Milbat employs a team of rehabilitation experts and 600 volunteers who combine knowledge in rehabilitation and technology to supply information and to counsel people with disabilities of all ages in order to improve their function and quality of life.

Who it helps

Key Holder is designed for people who lack fine motor skills and have trouble grasping and using ordinary keys.

How it works

This product is accessible to the public thanks to TOM's partnership with Poalim for the Community.

Household keys are small, slippery, and difficult to hold onto and control for people with limited finger mobility or range. However, opening one’s house, car, or other personal doors is an important part of a person’s independence.

The Key Holder aims to make holding and using keys easier by attaching to the key and expanding the graspable surface. There are a few design options to fit various key and hand shapes.

Key Holder is a 3D printed part designed to attach to any key and enable people who lack fine motor skills open doors independently. This product comes in 5 different models.
