Magnetic Co-Board - open-source assistive technology prototype by the Melbourne community

The challenge

Whilst there are existing kitchen mobility aids on the current market that assist individuals with limited mobilities to cook independently. These devices often lack the consideration of durable materials to stabilized a bowl for a left Hemiplegic .

Who it helps

Guy Slome is a left Hemiplegic and struggle to mix ingredient in bowl independently . He apart of a cooking class at Access Inc and would like simple, inconspicuous solution enables more independence while preparing food.

How it works

Through a base assembled from several laser-cut 0.3 Acrylic sheets, laminated together with stainless screws to help strategically encase a set of magnets and a weighted plate. To help stabilize a cooking bowl in place, which will also magnetize on top .

The solution being offered is a magnetic base that assists individuals with limited body movement to keep a cooking bowl stable while mixing ingredients independently with one hand.
