Motorized Wheelchair

Motorized Wheelchair - open-source assistive technology prototype by the University of Southern California community

The challenge

This project will present a way for wheelchair users to save energy and strain by implementing a detachable motor pack that suits their needs. It will create an affordable solution to otherwise extremely expensive preexisting designs.

Who it helps

Wilson is a Sophomore at USC studying Psychology.

How it works

This solution will remove the strain from wheelchair users who need to travel long distances, while also being detachable and storable when manual use is required.

We are creating a powered wheel and handlebar system that can attach to the front of a wheelchair for optimal control and ease of use.

Tools needed

Heavy duty gloves

Protective glasses

Prusa slicer

Measurement tool

Digital caliber

Clamps

Hot air blower

Dremel

FDM Printer
