Detachable Motor Assist for Wheelchair (using e-skateboard)

Detachable Motor Assist for Wheelchair (using e-skateboard) - open-source assistive technology prototype by the University of Southern California community

The challenge

All existing solutions/products have a prohibitive cost.

Who it helps

Manual Wheelchair Users.

How it works

Electric skateboards are relatively cheap and generally easy to source. Other materials used will be easy-to-find hardware (nuts/bolts, etc.) and simple raw materials (metal stock, etc.). Device is designed such that it can be built with simple tools.

Modified electric skateboard to act as a detachable motor assist. Device sits underneath the wheelchair to minimize excess footprint.

Tools needed

Protective glasses

Measurement tool

Clamps

Allen keys set

Ratchet + Boxes set

Cutter

Electric Srewdriver
