NowMobility

NowMobility - open-source assistive technology working model by the Bay Area community

About this project

The team decided to change the focus of wheelchair innovation from chair design to the phone. By integrating the smartphone with a chair, we can enhance the user's mobility & independence, while creating a limitless potential of functionalities. One example includes bluetooth driving & parking controls in chair, out of chair, and with assistance. The team added a battery, an arduino board and some gears and now every weelchair can transform into an electric wheel chair controlled by a smartphone.

The challenge

Wheelchair users struggle daily with maximizing their experience in their current mobility device. Motorized Wheelchairs are also very expensive, not everyone can afford them, and many users only need a manual wheelchair. How can 21st century technologies increase user experience when in their mobility device?

Who it helps

The need knowers are people who use motorized wheelchairs.
