Nurit's Time
About this project
The purpose of the solution is to transform a scary experience with everything related to upcoming events into a fun and relaxing experience. The solution is a tablet application. The application provides the following: All the crucial info on the nearest upcoming event, Access to a gallery of flower images, Access to a collection of songs.
The challenge
Her challenge is when there is an upcoming event that is out of the steady routine that Nurit is used to - Nurit gets into quite a severe anxiety. She then requires assistance from the staff members to reduce her anxiety level. The anxiety is related to the unknown factors related to the upcoming event - when will it occur? how does she need to prepare? what will be the weather? who will be there? What exactly is planned? All these unknowns add up and increase the anxiety levels.
Who it helps
Nurit is an elderly woman, she is 60+ years old. She loves flowers and loves listening to a relaxing music. She lives in a hostel for elderly people. Her cognitive abilities are quite advanced (some minor disability is present). She is surrounded during the day by trained staff members and other mates from the hostel. She can't properly read (it is a very slow and difficult process for her). She understands numbers and the concept of a calendar/clock. Her life routine is usually steady and activities are repeated daily or weekly, however, sometimes non-ordinary upcoming events appear. For examples - a family gathering, a trip outdoors with a group of people from the hostel, a party in the hostel etc.
