One-Handed Package Cutter for Older Adults with Hand Tremors

The challenge

Some older adults find it hard to cut open soft packaging because their hands are shaky and their grip is weak. It would be exhausting for them to repeat the cutting motions using regular scissors when opening a package.

Older Adults with Hand Tremors

How it works

The cutter has a one-press mechanism allowing the users to open packaging by simply pressing downward once and then sliding the packaging bag across the blade to get a clean cut.

We designed a cutter, which can be fixed to the kitchen table with the dual suction cups at the bases.
