Parenting with independence

Parenting with independence - open-source assistive technology working model by the TOM International Community community

The challenge

This project empowers parents with mobility impairments to experience independent parenting, fostering both autonomy and inclusion in everyday life.

Who it helps

Our project addresses a significant challenge faced by parents with lower limb paralysis: the ability to independently and safely transport their baby in a stroller while using a wheelchair. We developed an innovative wheelchair-to-stroller connector.

How it works

Our project solves the challenge of independent mobility for parents in wheelchairs by creating a connector that attaches a Bugaboo stroller to a wheelchair, allowing safe and easy movement with a baby—giving freedom, confidence, and daily independence.

Ola, a mother with lower limb paralysis, couldn't move independently with her baby. We designed a connector linking her wheelchair to a Bugaboo stroller, allowing safe, independent mobility—restoring her freedom, confidence, and daily independence.
