As students with visual impairments, they are unable to be children, ie- enjoy playing games, because the gaming industry is dominated by games that depend on visual cues. They require instructors to 'see', and are unable to play their game independently.
This project is designed in collaboration with the students at the St. Joseph's School for the Blind. The students there, who are blind or hard of seeing, communicated their needs and gave feedback throughout the process of the game development.
Developed to run on sound-cues that alerts the player when a character approaches obstacles, combined with sufficient contrast and varying levels, Pea's Journey offers an inclusive & independent gaming experience for people who are visually impaired.
Pea's Journey is a computer-based audio game, designed to operate primarily on sound-based cues and works as a platform game. The game ensures sufficient contrast and on-time obstacles based on customized instrumental beats.
