Project Miriam: Increasing Feasibility in Breastfeeding

Project Miriam: Increasing Feasibility in Breastfeeding - open-source assistive technology working model by the University of Southern California community

The challenge

Breastfeeding is a common struggle for mothers with conditions that affect upper-body mobility. By creating a solution that simplifies breast-switching during feeding, we are providing a tool that enhances the breastfeeding support.

Who it helps

Our innovation facilitates seamless breastfeeding for mothers with MS or other mobility-limiting conditions by enabling effortless switching between breasts during a feed.

How it works

The rotating disk enables our need-know to swivel her growing child to the opposite breast during feeding, eliminating the need to physically lift the child, which is difficult due to her condition.

A 3D-printed rotating disk strapped to a traditional breastfeeding pillow that allows baby to be rotated between sides during feeding.
