Seatbelt Pusher

Seatbelt Pusher - open-source assistive technology product by the Vanderbilt University community

About this project

The Seatbelt Pusher was developed to help Hugh-- a child with club arm syndrome-- have more independence in his family's car. The product attaches to a standard seatbelt and assists in pressing down the buckle release. *****Please check safety regulations in your state/country before using. It may be recommended to remove the Seatbelt Pusher while the vehicle is in motion*****

The challenge

This project helps Hugh gain independence by being able to get himself out of the car on his own.

Who it helps

This product was designed to help Hugh, a boy with club arm syndrome, unbuckle his seat belt on his own. It may be helpful for others with limb/hand differences.

How it works

The Seatbelt Pusher is threaded onto the seat belt, and can release a seatbelt buckle using simple downward pressure.

The seatbelt pusher is a 3D-printed device that helps Hugh, and others, easily release their seatbelt buckle.
